The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (KVL) was founded in 1856. KVL is the only Danish university specialising in the agricultural and veterinarian area and the only place where veterinarians, agronomists, horticulturists and MSc's in forestry and agricultural economists are educated. KVL is also one the few universities in Denmark where MSc's in food science and technology are educated.

The Centre for Advanced Food Studies, LMC, is a research centre without walls. The centre was established in 1992 in a collaboration between The Technical University of Denmark, DTU, and The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, KVL.

The main tasks of the centre are coordinating food research and university level food science and technology education at DTU and KVL, to promote research results to the public and increase the knowledge about the qualifications of MSc's and BSc's in Food Science and Technology.
